Install Dicular
A fast desktop editor for .layout files. Public beta — free.
1 · Download
macOS
Download for Apple Silicon (M1–M4) · Intel Mac
Not sure? Apple menu → About This Mac. “Apple M…” = Apple Silicon; “Intel” = Intel Mac.
Windows
2 · Open it the first time
The beta is signed but not yet notarized by Apple / not yet reputation-rated by Microsoft, so the OS asks you to confirm the first launch. This is expected for a beta — you only do it once.
macOS — “Dicular can’t be opened” / unidentified developer
- Open the
.dmgand drag Dicular into Applications. - Right-click (or Control-click) Dicular in Applications → Open → Open again in the dialog.
- If you don’t see an Open button: System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down, and click Open Anyway.
After the first open it launches normally — and auto-updates “just work” from then on.
Windows — “Windows protected your PC” (SmartScreen)
- Run the installer.
- If SmartScreen appears, click More info → Run anyway.
3 · Open your first file
Launch Dicular and open any .layout file (File → Open, or drag it onto the window). Your documents stay on your device.
4 · Connect SketchUp (optional)
Dicular can link directly to an open .skp model in SketchUp via a companion Ruby plugin, so you can drive your drawings from the live model. Setup details are documented in-app and on the changelog as the bridge rolls out.
Updates
Check for updates from Settings or the command palette (⌘K / Ctrl K → “Check for updates”). Dicular downloads, verifies the signature, installs, and relaunches.
Heads up: Intel macOS builds and Windows installers are produced on a slower cadence during the beta. If your platform’s download 404s briefly right after a release, check back shortly.
